Biltmore Estate - The Winter Garden

As you enter the Biltmore Mansion, the largest home in the United States, located in Asheville, NC, you quickly approach the octagonal sunken Winter Garden on the right of the entrance hall.

You see the stone archways with a ceiling of architecturally sculptured wood and multifaceted glass.

We visited Biltmore in late June and were able to see the costume exhibition of wedding dresses and attire from major motion pictures. The Winter Garden was decorated for wedding style to celebrate the exhibition. (Biltmore.com)

Just outside the Winter Garden, a wedding cake was on display.

Below is wedding gown and wedding attire from the motion picture Daniel Deronda in 2003 on display in the Tapestry Gallery Room which is close to the Winter Garden in the mansion.

It was difficult to take photos because of lighting issues in many of the rooms but at least photos were allowed. I understand only in the last few years has picture taking been permitted.

The Winter Garden was beautiful, and I am so honored that I was able to tour the mansion.

Biltmore Estate - The Banquet Room

In late June, I visited the Biltmore House in Asheville, North Carolina. Today, I am sharing my visit to the Banquet Hall. This room is the largest room in the house and is 42 feet wide and 72 feet long. The table sits in front of a triple fireplace. (Biltmore.com) Take a look:

I am sure you noticed the two huge chandeliers over the banquet table.
 Aren't they just stunning!

The table is just grand! Can you imagine the parties, celebrations and family meals in this room?

The 16th century tapestries in the room are beautiful. The china is stored in the Butler's Pantry in glass cupboards.

The flowers are all fresh and grown on the Biltmore Estate grounds and in the conservatory.

The organ loft overlooking the Banquet Hall.

The chateauesque-styled mansion was built by George Washington Vanderbilt II between 1889 and 1895 and is the largest privately owned house in the United States.  (Wikipedia)

Since the month of June is regarded as the most popular month for weddings, the estate hosted "Fashionable Romance: Wedding Gowns in Film."

Below is the wedding attire displayed in the Banquet Room.

From the motion picture "The Duchess."

Costumes were displayed throughout the house. I'll show you more in another post.

Biltmore Breakfast Room

If you have never been to Asheville, North Carolina, it is worth your while to go and visit the Biltmore Estates. Today, I am sharing the Breakfast Room at Biltmore; it was one of my favorite rooms.

The lighting was not good, so my images aren't the best. You can still see the grandness of this room. The breakfast room was only for breakfast and not for dinner parties.

I read there are three generations of china and crystal stored in Biltmore House, and much of it is more than 100 years old. The china is stored in glass cupboards in the two-story Butler's Pantry.

The guide said they ate breakfast and some luncheons in this room. Can you imagine sitting down to this gorgeous table? What an honor that must have been! BTW the flowers are all fresh and grown on the estate.

I am sure you are noticing the white linens on the table. I'm not sure if the china on the table is the fine china from the Biltmore collections. It may stay in the butler's pantry since it is so fragile and old.

I couldn't get a shot of the entire room on my iPhone so I have borrowed an image from Romantic Asheville.com  to share with you.

I did get a pic of the ornate ceiling. There were so many people of the tour, it was difficult to take pics and the lighting made it worse. At least they did allow pictures to be taken.

Now you have visited the gorgeous Breakfast Room at the Biltmore Estate. I'll share more of this trip soon. Thanks for stopping by - Judy.

The Biltmore Gardens

I'm sharing another post from a visit to The Biltmore Estates (America's largest home). Today, we are going to walk through the outdoor gardens at Biltmore, you follow the steps down through the black gates and then you see the garden area and it is just massive.

The stone walls surrounding the walled gardens make a beautiful backdrop for gorgeous flowers and shrubs everywhere you look.

You can walk along the outer path of the gardens . . .

Or you can walk through the center of the gardens.

There is some shade in the gazebo near the center of the gardens.

At the back and lower end of the garden area is The Conservatory, which was built to supply Biltmore House and gardens with flowers and bedding plants.

Join me next time as we tour The Conservatory and see palms, tropical plants, and orchids - Judy.
