Blooms and Butterflies in Late June

The month of June is just about over and I'm only seeing a few butterflies visiting my flowers.

Today I snapped an orange butterfly on my deck.

I believe this one is the "Question Mark" butterfly.

Bees are visiting daily.

The pumpkin seeds that my grandson and I planted weeks ago are blooming. We simply planted the seeds in a big pot and began watering. The seeds were a couple of years old so I didn't know what to expect. Would the seeds grow or do nothing? You can see by the blooms they surprised us and are now blooming. I've got to get them out of the pot and in the ground.

We had dove eggs in a nest at the back of our shop a while back. The eggs are gone now so I'm not sure if something bothered them or, hopefully, they hatched while we were gone on a trip.

I moved some of our hummingbird feeders to the middle of our zinnia and coneflower beds hoping to attract more hummers.

Thanks for stopping in today - Judy.

  1. Judy, your blooms are lovely. Not much blooming here for me. Day lilies and iris have bloomed out. Hoping the day lilies will rebloom this summer. They sometimes do. The gerber daisies are blooming here and there, but no big show and my geraniums are sparse. I need to green up my thumb! Love the vibrant colors of your zinnias!

  4. Beautiful blooms Judy. One of the sweetest things I love most about summer you've captured beautifully. Wish I could say my flowers are blooming but most have died back with only the impatiens blooming. Thanks for sharing a little summer sweetness.

  5. I was late getting my hummingbird feeders up, but after a month I'm getting a few visitors. Last year I got them up early enough to attract the hummers while they were migrating. It was a feeding frenzy for a few weeks until they moved on and left a few residents who remained until August. Thanks for visiting my post about blooming Dracaena plants. How old are yours? Mine too quite a few years and growth before they started to bloom annually. - Margy

  7. Judy - gorgeous shots. So glad your pumpkin seeds sprouted, and flowers already? When I was young and we had more squash flowers than we wanted squash, my Mom would coat the blossoms in egg and cracker crumbs and fry them up - delicious. Your picture of the blossom made my mouth water. Happy Fourth of July!
