Two Rockers and A View

I have two rockers from Cracker Barrel on my front porch here in Kentucky. Both were gifts from my husband, one for our anniversary in late December and one for my birthday in March. I do remember a few years ago they were priced about $100 and was I surprised how much that price has gone up.

Now is a perfect time to sit in the rockers and enjoy the view of my front yard and flower beds. The earliest signs of spring brought this look to my yard with the pear trees and daffodils.

Now those have dropped their blooms and I have moved into purple bearded irises.

Our pink weigela buds are opening.

A couple of rose buds have opened.

My husband planted four pink dogwoods and 4 white dogwoods this spring and we were happy to see a few blooms open.

I have a lot to be thankful for with these beautiful blooms and the color in my yard.

Thanks for stopping by for another day of Life in Kentucky - Judy.

Irises Blooming

Hello, hope all of you are happy and well in blogland. I have so enjoyed Spring this year and especially my flowers growing and blooming in my yard. My lilacs are done and now my irises are going strong. Here's my breakfast tablescape for this week. I'll show you my inspiration in just a second.
Now, here is the inspiration for my table. Just look at this bearded iris from my yard, I love it! I'll give you a link below to my post on my irises. There's even a little challenge on identifying bearded irises.
I began thinking about a post with irises a few weeks ago and wondering what colors I would use in my tablescape other than purple. At first I had planned on using white China with a white tablecloth but when the irises bloomed and I looked closely at them, there was no question on what color choice I should use with the white China.
Now I am so glad I used the yellow placemats and then doubled my yellow and purple napkins using a silver napkin ring. The purple napkins are hemstitch and the yellow are from Pier 1 and have a crochet edge.
I found this great teapot at TJ Maxx and thought it would get a little more fame if I elevated it using a couple pieces of silver.

I used my yellow Bordallo Pinheiro pitcher as a vase for the iris centerpiece. I cut the irises to keep my centerpiece low so we could have easy conversation at the table without looking around or over the irises.
I few of the blooms fell off while making the centerpiece and I didn't want to throw them away so I added a little water to a small glass bowl and gave the them a little longer show time.
I do have another set of white dishes now and I didn't pay a dime for them. My daughter had them on her garage sale shelf in her basement. I do remember that I bought them for her when she moving away to go to CRNA school. She was happy to give the Pfaltzgraff Gazebo set back to me and at what a bargain, FREE, well other than the fact that I paid for them the first time.
The breakfast menu is ready to serve. My husband always enjoys a big breakfast so I am serving a selection from the Queen Mary Tea website except the food will be made by me.
STRAWBERRY BRIE OMELET
Three eggs, fresh strawberries, brie, a touch of raspberry jam and finished with a sprinkle of powdered sugar. Served with a side of country style potatoes and fresh fruit.

Mary's Tea Room features African Red Bush Tea. Here's a link to a little info about her tea.

My Iris Beds

I have been waiting for my irises to bloom so I could share my view of them with you. Take a look to see if your view is the same as mine:
I am not an expert on irises so I did a little research to share with you. My iris above and in the first collage below are Bearded Iris. Here's the instructions on how to identify the bearded iris.

    • 1
Examine the iris blooms. Iris blooms all have six petals with the same basic standards and falls. The standards are the three petals that rise upright on the blossom. The falls are the three petals that hang around the edges of the blossom.
    • 2
Look for the key characteristic that identifies and sets bearded irises apart from other iris varieties. Bearded irises have a fuzzy little "beard" protruding from the center of the blossoms, lying at the top center of each fall. They resemble pipe cleaners or chenille stems. The color of the beards often contrasts with the petal color.

I do have more than one color of iris.

Ok, it's your turn, follow the identification steps above and tell me if my iris below is bearded or not.

Well, do you think you can now identify bearded irises?

Thanks for stopping by - Judy.
