I started this series of posts (In the Birdhouses) last spring and decided to continue this year.
We have a pair of Eastern Bluebirds that are nesting in one of our birdhouses.
Although we haven't been able to see any nestlings, both the male and female are bringing food to the nest. You can see the cricket in his mouth that he is taking in to the nest.
Their spring and summer diet mostly consists of crickets, grasshoppers, katydids, beetles, earthworms and snails.
Thanks for stopping by, I'll try to get some more pics soon of the bluebirds - Judy.

The bluebird house is about 3 feet from the branch where I took this pic. I had to sit very still to get this pic.

I love this. We have a bluebird that keeps checking one of our birdhouses. I hope it isn't too late for it to be used.

ReplyDeleteGreat pcitures of the Bluebird. Great to see they are nesting again and hopefully have a healthy brood.
ReplyDeleteJudy - how blessed you are to have these beauties nesting with you. We have had two birdboxes on our property for two springs, and although the mountain bluebirds expressed interest, they did not take residence. We adjusted the size of the holes, and we hope this year to have more success. Stay well, my friend!

That's a big morsel for a baby bird. They grow so fast I guess they need lots to eat. - Margy
