Christmas in the Hearth Room

Blue and red are used as the primary colors for decorating our Hearth Room this season.

The Mantel

Because I am such a fan of blue, it is used throughout the house year-round. Adding additional touches of blues and reds make for easy decorating.

Adding double-faced Royal Blue satin ribbons to ginger jars, colorful nutcracker standing finials, plus glass finials on candlestick holders, plus garland, rice lights and the mantel is complete.

Favorite Christmas pillows from years ago were added to the navy blue and white pillows on both sides of the hearth.

The Tree

Rice lights were used on the 7.5-foot Arapaho pine tree followed by 5 types of Christmas holiday bows and ribbons.

Ornaments included blue and white glass, and chinoiserie style (DIY). Lots of red berries and a few red poinsettias were added.

Lastly, a glass mouth-blown hand-painted Christmas Tree topper was wired to the top of the tree.

The tree is complete

and the Hearth Room is cozy.

Thanks for stopping by to see Christmas in the Hearth Room - Judy

At the Lake - American White Pelicans

What an exciting surprise we got on a short trip to the lake this week!

My sister-in-law came for a weekend visit while the guys went deer hunting. You know how some guys just love deer camp! But for the girls, we decided to spend the weekend sewing and doing girl things.

Although the temps were in the low 30's and it was windy, we needed to make a quick run to the lake to pick up her earrings that were left on her boat.

When we pulled in the parking lot at Cypress Springs where we boat, I saw there were American White Pelicans at the boat docks. I can't tell you how excited I was to see them.

I couldn't get out of the car fast enough and head down the dock to try and get a few pics before they swam off.

At first, the pelicans started swimming away but after I stood still a bit, they started swimming back to the dock.

The pelicans usually start migrating in the fall and arrive to Kentucky Lake in October. So, I certainly wasn't expecting any to still be hanging around on the lake in November.

Hope you enjoyed seeing the American White Pelicans on Kentucky Lake - Judy.

Sorry my pics aren't great, but I only had my iPhone with me.

October Blooms and Warblers

My Limelight Hydrangeas are showing off their fall colors. Take a look:

Their blooms are fading and just look how gorgeous their colors are here in mid-October.

I have been watering my Limelight's to extent their blooms and I think it is working.

Although they are not at their beak, their beauty is still abundant.

As I was looking out my kitchen window this morning, I could see a couple of small birds flitting around in the trees.

The hummers are gone, so I knew it had to be warblers.

They are so quick and don't sit still long. I was snaping pics quickly but only got a couple of decent pics.

Hope you are enjoying the fall colors in your area - Judy.

September Blooms & Butterflies

Although it is the middle of September, I am thankful to still have butterflies in my yard. The Black Swallowtails are visiting the remaining zinnias.

I'm featuring the orange zinnias since it is just about Autumn and the orange flowers are popping in my gardens.

Sometimes the butterflies pause a little longer on the flowers as they gather the nectar. Standing very still is a requirement for me to snap pictures.

I'm glad I snappy these pics of my dahlias last week because yesterday the whole plants had fallen over. Not sure if the wind got it or just the end of the season.

Growing more dahlia is at the top of my list for next year.

The Cardinal Vine has more red blooms opening each day. I will gather seeds in October or November to plant next year.

Variegated liriope is planted as a border plant around my shade garden.  Love its colorful purple blooms.

Other plants in my shade garden providing some color are coleus.

The purple blooms of my supertunias are still providing some color.

Yellow and white Lantana with orange Merigolds blooming in the background.

A sure sign of fall in my yard are the orange berries on the Pyracantha shrub. I only have one of this thorny evergreen shrub.

It had white flowers in early to mid-summer; then followed by the masses of brilliant orange berries.

Hope you enjoyed my September blooms. Can't wait to hear what is blooming in your area - Judy.

Antiquing and Lunch @ Miss Lucille's

Come join me as three friends and I go antiquing in Clarksville, TN at Miss Lucille's Marketplace.

Miss Lucille's has over 200 vendors and 5,200 sq. feet and we didn't miss a single booth. Most pics were taken by me, but I borrowed a few from Miss Lucille.

Eating at the Cafe

We had planned to eat at Miss Lucille's Cafe and were all starving after our drive and couldn't wait to see the menu.

We ordered at the counter.

The cafe was decorated in a rustic style with a wall full of antique shutters.

The menu did not disappoint, our group ordered Fannie's Chicken Salad Sandwich, Saddie Mae's Grilled Cheese, the Yummy Yummy Bowl and the Chopped Salad. The food was great!

Time to antique and shop the booths

One of the first booth's was Miss Lucille's mouthwatering kettle corn. We all went home with a bag of kettle corn! (I was hoping my husband would be happy I brought him something to eat and would not ask how my checkbook was looking. He didn't even ask!)

The kettle corn came in several different flavors.

Over 200 booths

There was something for everyone: antiques, new clothing, new decor pieces, furniture, jewelry, and metal work.

My Fabulous Finds

I was antiquing with a purpose. Blue and white pieces were on my list for this antiquing trip. My group knew what I was looking for and they were happy to help. Pictures of my finds were taken at home after the trip.

My first fabulous find was a piece of Polish Pottery. The 5.5 inch blue and white flower dot teapot was stamped on the bottom with Boleslawiec, hand made in Poland.

A Majolica teapot in a Partridge in a Pear Tree was another good find. This teapot was made in 1994 by Henriksen. I love the cobalt blue in this piece.

Another vintage piece that made it to my cart was a blue and white Hengstenberg German Milk Glass mustard jar.

The mustard jar is about 5 inches jar and perfect to go in my hutch with other blue and white dishes.

Those pieces have all been placed in my kitchen hutch.

The other pieces of blue and white that came home with me were not antiques but caught my eye because I just liked that cobalt blue color. A platter and two dinner plates. I found the platter at one booth and the two plates at another booth. Lucky me! I'll use them in the kitchen but not in the kitchen hutch.

A 13-inch shallow bowl came home with me too.

The last three finds include a black finial and two blue and white chinoiserie orbs.

The 13-in shallow bowl and the black finial are now on the fireplace mantel. Note: The fireplace and hearth are getting ready for another update. Third time should be a charm! Hint: I'm tired of the grout lines.

Hope you enjoyed the trip to Miss Lucille's. I am not affiliated with Miss Lucille but sure enjoyed the visit.

How do you like to antique? Do you shop with a purpose or just go for the adventure? Let me know!
