The Peeps Are Out

Are you seeing the Easter Peeps in the stores yet? You know, those yellow Easter marshmallow rabbits that so many people just love.

Lots of us, including myself, are buying the peeps right off the shelves to make sure we get some before they are gone.

I made my grandson's some chocolate cupcakes decorated with grass icing and jellybeans then plated the cupcakes with some Easter peeps and other decorative cookies.

Take a look at these cute white rabbit Peeps! How sweet would these look in an Easter basket?

Do you remember the 60th anniversary peeps from a few years ago? I used them in some Easter decor and just loved them.

 Anniversary Peeps

I created a special vignette featuring the Anniversary Peeps and whimsical Easter decor.

What are you plans for creating something special with Peeps? Leave me a comment and let me know. Thanks.

Still My Favorite Table for Easter

With Easter right around the corner, I've been thinking about my antique Azalea China by Noritake. It has such a beautiful pattern with its soft hues of pinks, grays, and greens.

I'm bringing this favorite tablescape post "Eggs On Top" from the archives to share with you.

The centerpiece featured an egg wreath and pink pillar candle placed on a cake stand. Although we have moved to another state (Missouri to Kentucky) and I have changed the title of my blog from JBigg's Little Pieces to Life in Kentucky, the wreath and the china has traveled right along.

My Grandmother bought pieces of the Azalea China from the Larkin Company using premiums from laundry detergent in the 1930s. This China was passed to my Mom then later to me. I sure hope my daughter wants it and it doesn't end up in a yard sale but who knows!

The Fitz and Floyd rabbits in the picture below are from the Woodland Spring Collection. They are another one of my Easter favorites.

The rabbit teapot and salt and pepper shakers below are Fitz and Floyd Botanical Collection. They are such delicate pieces, I try to be so careful with their ears.

The pink table runner and napkins were made by my friend JoAnn.

My husband bought the Wm. Rogers and Son Gold Plated Enchanted Rose Flatware set at a small shop in Cape Girardeau, MO when we were living in Missouri.

The pink stemware is Fostoria Heritage.

The cake plate sitting in the lower left corner above is such a beautiful piece.  You can see the gold handles on each side of it.

Hope you have enjoyed seeing my Easter tablescape featuring Noritake Azalea China - Judy.

A Birthday Celebration

This morning (March 22) I thanked the Lord when my eyes opened, and my heart was still beating.  Why, because it was my birthday and I am thankful for another year!

Here's me over the years:

My 72nd birthday - 2022; one of my many teaching pictures - around 1985; my wedding day - 1970; and my first day of school - 1956.

What can I say other than I have had a wonderful life from childhood through my adulthood. I grew up in a small town and loved playing outside. Every day was a fun day! In 1970, I married my high school sweetheart; have celebrated 51 years of marriage; taught school for 37 years;  try to swim laps about everyday; and have a daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons. I have gone to church my whole life. What more could I have hoped for!

For a birthday lunch, I joined four lady friends and had a great time at Dumplings in Murray, KY. We forgot to take many pictures.

When I got home from the luncheon celebration, my husband had an evening birthday dinner planned for the two of us. He is quite the cook!

He served Cajun grilled shrimp plus buttered lemon shrimp kabobs on skewers of zucchini, yellow squash and tomatoes.

To top the evening of celebrating off, our daughter had us over for cake and some family birthday laughter.

Thank goodness we shared the cake and cupcakes. There was strawberry cake, carrot cake, red velvet cake, and two kinds of chocolate cupcakes. Can you believe all that goodness on one plate and soooooo many calories too! My daughter stopped at a wonderful bakery where she loves to buy cakes.

It was a wonderful birthday but I know I've got to get to the pool in the morning to swim off some of those birthday calories.

Let me know what you think about the celebrating and the sweetness shown by my family. It wasn't so bad turning 72! So many blessings - Judy.

Our St. Patrick's Day Party

We had a few of our closest friends over to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. I'm a little late in posting about the party but we left for a weekend trip and just got home on Sunday night.

The cooking was a team effort with my husband and I cooking most of the day preparing the menu. We started cooking the Irish Beef Stew and the Corn Beef early since both required hours.

Our appetizers included:

Irish Egg Rolls made with chopped red cabbage, carrots cooked with the stew, chopped corn beef, Swiss cheese and the egg roll wrappers then deep fried 2-3 minutes. We served them with a couple of different dipping sauces both made with horseradish.

A fruit and cheese board featuring the colors of the Irish flag: blood oranges, green grapes, white yogurt covered pretzels, Vermont Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese and a couple Granny Smith Apples thinly slices and formed to the shape of a Shamrock.

A Kentucky Bourbon cheese spread purchased at the Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, KY.

We stopped at the Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, KY, on a recent trip to Louisville, KY.

The ladies drank orange margaritas to continue of theme of Irish colors. These Irish Margaritas were mixed using diet orange soda, diet sun drop soda, sugar free Triple Sec and Tequila. I know margaritas aren't Irish but it was fun and we laughed.

After the appetizers, the Irish stew was served at the table along with Irish grilled cheese sandwiches, Irish potato cakes, and Corn Beef and sauerkraut sandwiches. Sorry, I forgot a pic of the Irish grilled cheese sandwich.

You can see my St. Patty's Day tablescape here.

For dessert, we served Grasshopper Mint Pie, Andes Mints and Irish Milkshakes.

The grasshopper pie was made with pistachio pudding, whipped cream, a couple drops of mint, milk extract, and a chocolate cookie crust. The milk shakes were made with ice cream, peppermint schnapps, vanilla extract, and a little green liquid food coloring.

I pulled out several pieces of green decor to use in our living room.

We had a fun evening with our friends! Thanks for stopping in. Let me know what you think about our menu - Judy.

Spring in the Kitchen Hutch

Spring is a great time to share my kitchen hutch. It is filled with lots of green dishes plus stemware and just in time for St. Patrick's Day.

Bring out the green!

If you like green and you like dishes, you might enjoy my spring kitchen hutch.

The third shelf of the hutch is filled with Bordallo Pinheiro cabbage design plates, bowls and a platter. The green cabbage pattern is such a popular design that is all over blogland right now. I've been collecting them for 10 or more years.

The second shelf holds some newer finds added to my collection this year.

A couple of months ago, I was antiquing in the Branson, MO, area and found this darling tray, teapot and creamer. These three pieces have the rabbit and carrot design.

Since no sugar bowl came with these three pieces another hunt was on. I found a dragonfly design sugar bowl and lid on eBay.

The top shelf of the kitchen hutch holds stemware Lady Ann Gold by Gotham plus inexpensive green stemware. A ceramic pineapple stands in the middle.

Inside the door on the left side of the kitchen hutch, you will see more stemware, some Irish pieces, and a ceramic teapot made by my Mom in 1975.

Inside the right door of the hutch are more of the Lady Ann Gold stemware by Gotham on the top shelf, a checked shamrock and an Irish lad and lass.

The middle shelf holds pineapple design Bordallo plate and a rabbit and carrot design small Bordallo pitcher.

The bottom shelf is filled with white Bordallo dishes and a couple of St. Patrick's Day gnomes.

There you have it for my first addition of my Kitchen Hutch. Let me know what you think! - Judy
