At the Feeders and in the Trees - Week 9

The snow in our area didn't last long. A Dark-eyed Junco looked stunning with the snow in the background. Love his pink bill. 

Finch in the Snow . . .

The White-throated Sparrow was in the trees and at the feeders during the snow. It is the first one I have photographed here in Kentucky. They only visit in the winter in our area.

The snow melted pretty quickly.  This cute little male Downy posed for several cute shots. 

A day after the snow was gone, I saw a  bird fly to a branch in the tall hickory trees in our front yard and was pretty sure it was a Northern Mockingbird but needed to zoom in on my pics for a better look. His dark eyeline seems pretty noticeable in the pic below. 

The male Goldfinches are gaining more of their bright yellow color as spring approaches.

St. Patty's Tablescape - A Leprechaun Is Caught

Have you seen a little bearded guy wearing a green coat and hat? This little guy likes to partake in mischief. I've been looking for a little guy like this and think I have him "under hat." See what you think.

Although he is often making or mending shoes, today he has a special place on my St. Patty's Day table. You can see he is under a bell jar so he won't get away.

For the table, I'm using a St. Patty's Day table runner and napkins that I made for the occasion.

A stack of Bordallo Pinheiro green cabbage plates is perfect for the day. 

A stained glass shamrock made by my friend, Linda, also sits on the table runner. She sell them on her ebay store - Trace Creek Blues and has lots of neat hand-made items in her shop.

There you have it, a fun table for St. Patty's Day. 

I hope the leprechaun will grant me three wishes and then he will be free - Judy

At the Feeders and in the Trees - Week 8

We received snow last night here in Western Kentucky and the birds are in a feeding frenzy. I've been taking pics of them for a couple of hours.

The birds look so beautiful in the snow, especially the female cardinals.

The male cardinals looks so brilliant in the snow too. 

Goldfinches are in the trees.

At the Feeders and in the Trees - Week 7

I'm still filling my feeders daily for my feathered friends. A Cedar Waxwing was high in the trees by my deck and I was able to snap an okay pic to share with you. This is the first one I have been in my trees since moving here a year ago. Notice the bright yellow tip on his tail. 

Lots of house finch, purple finches and goldfinches are at the feeders. Here's the female purple finch. Notice her white eyebrow.

Take a look at the female house finch and her lack of a white eyebrow. 

I had a robin visit this week.

Nuthatches too.

Take a look at the American Robin.

I see Northern Cardinals daily.
