We arrived home from a trip on the Rhine River. I'll have additional posts about our trip but today, I'm sharing the beautiful swans we saw on our journey. We boarded our Viking Boat in Amsterdam and the next morning visited Kinderdijk.
Kinderdijk is a village in the providence of South Holland, Netherlands.
We experienced the dutch landscape, walked along the canals, and toured one of the 18th century windmills.
There were Mute Swans meandering in the canal waters. They are so beautiful and have such graceful movements.
Near the end of our trip on the Rhine, we saw Mute Swans again along the shore line as we approached our port at Strasbourg, Germany.

They quickly swam out to greet us. They seemed very comfortable in approaching us. I wondered if this is what they always do when a tour boat arrives. They were stunning to watch as they came right up to our boat. I read that Mute Swans have tremendous appetites.
Such incredible creatures.
Such elegance and beauty.
The swans on the Rhine trip were so special and such a privilege to watch.

ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful photos Judy. We traveled to Amsterdam on the train so we didn't have the riverboat scenery. I'm looking forward to all your photos and where you cruised. We are thinking about the Rhine cruise next fall. The swans are absolutely stunning!

ReplyDeleteDid you know that the swans along the Rhine River are gathered late fall/early winter to protect them. They are then released again when warmer weather comes along.

DeleteI always enjoy seeing the swans whenever I go to Europe. I have seen them on the Danube and the Rhine and in many of the lakes, especially in Switzerland and they always seem to be quite friendly. Your photos are wonderful!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful windmills & mute swans. Have to tell you that the whooper swan is somehow Finland’s national bird - should check why. But it can be seen on Finnair planes too. Happy MM.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful swans to see on your river cruise. We did a Paris to the Normandy Landing Beaches a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it all.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Mute Swan---We have the Trumpeter Swan that winter over in our Skagit Valley. Beautiful creatures and they have all black bills. How I could tell them apart I guess.

Love your swan photos and the pictures from Holland, Judy! Back when I was 19, I was an exchange student to Leverkusen, Germany and stayed 3 1/2 weeks with my host family there. It was time for their summer holiday, so the Gerlach's took me along to Alkmaar, over on the Nord See (North Sea), and we stayed the weekend at the beach. Beautiful place! Loved visiting Amsterdam that weekend, too.
