Thinking of soup for the soul, how about a little chicken gumbo?
I think chicken gumbo has become my favorite soup this winter. My husband and I enjoy soup at lunch time and it seems like we eat gumbo most days.
Soup always seems to warm the body and the soul on a cold day. I am enjoying this soup at my dining room table and using some of my new aqua colored dishes.
Gumbo is a stew or soup that probably originated the Louisiana in the 18th century. The dish likely derived its name from either the Bantu word for okra (ki ngombo) or the Choctaw word for filé (kombo).
My husband and I first started eating gumbo on our many trips to New Orleans. Gumbo is always on our list of cajun goods to eat. I prefer the chicken gumbo in the south where my husband likes shellfish in his gumbo.
Below is a picture of my table before the chicken gumbo soup was served. I started a little series on my blue (aqua) bowl centerpiece last week and am adding to it each week for a short series. I'll give you a link below to Blue on Blue - Part 1 and Part 2.
How do you like my birds on the table? I think she has her head up to smell the soup. :)
Thanks for stopping by for my Soup for the Soul - Judy

I love the blue of your bowls, I have a thing about "duck egg blue". A while ago I found some amazing original French shutters that were chippy and weathered and I have used them on the wall behind my bed as a feature headboard, I love them. Then went on to buy a gorgeous crackled effect blue candleabra to tone in. Now its a joy to sleep in on a weekend, I almost feel like I am in France ☺
ReplyDeleteI found your blog through a linky party, just trying to work out how I add myself to networked blogs as I hear they are doing away with google connect, but not sure how true that is.
I will come back later and look around your blog a little more as I see you have some lovely things here.

Beautiful table and delicious soup! Love it!
ReplyDeleteYour chicken gumbo looks delicious. I love soup during the winter, too. My favorite is your aqua or tiffany box blue colored china. I just love that color and your tablescape is gorgeous. The centerpiece with soft table runner and sweet birds is perfect. I mention gumbo in my post this week! Happy Tea Party! Pam
ReplyDeleteI am in love with your setting!! I love the aqua dishes and your sweet little birds! My kitchen is decorated with birds and I have just started a series of post on them. I'm now a follower and would be thrilled if you would follow me back!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!

Gumbo sounds great to me, especially at your pretty set table!
ReplyDeleteWe are having more and more soups. Since I am very careful to use every bit of food purchased, soup has become my go to for leftovers. Will have to add gumbo to the list, and it should be a natural since we spend so much time in New Orleans with our son and my sister.
ReplyDeletePretty table
Judy, Judy, Judy.....my gumbo sister! I love it so much, but I am just too lazy to prepare it very often. I have had gumbo with just chicken, but I must admit I prefer it with a little shrimp tossed in there as well as some andouille sausage and a crab leg or two. When we would visit Baton Rouge, LA as kids, my cousin's nanny would make it for us all with the seafood and andouille. I have loved it ever since! I think I will need to come to your house and taste the chicken gumbo to see if I like it better. That sounds like a plan! I'll take some French bread, a salad, a hurricane and some beignets for dessert, too! :-) Your dishes are absolutely beautiful! They are a color that can be used all year long, which is always a plus! The color of the gumbo is the perfect pairing! Your birds are pretty, too!!! Gorgeous table, my sweet!!!!!!!!!!! Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi Judy! Gumbo with chicken is one of my favorites too! Hubby and I eat soup quite often, especially in the winter. Tonight I made a crab soup for dinner. I love your aqua dishes and the cute birds. Thank you for joining the Open House party this week.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sherry
I love soup too...though have never had gumbo. Butternut squash soup is top on our list, but I'll have to try gumbo. Your dishes are so pretty and look like they can hold quite a bit of nice hot soup. Your birds are wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteHi Judy!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that shade of blue! SO pretty. The little birds are cute. I think I bought one at Michael's but now I'm sorry I didn't buy more! I have a chicken creole gumbo recipe and this would be the perfect weekend for it. Thanks for sharing!

I love the dishes in this post! Thank you so much for giving me the link to that aqua paint color. I love it! There is a couple Sherwin Williams ones that have been suggested that I like. I know nothing about their paint though. I am definately going to go get the paint sample to the one you showed. Can't wait to have a Aqua room!
ReplyDeleteYou set a lovely table Judy. The birds are a terrific touch the soup sounds delish too. xo P.S. thank you for linking up to the Thursday Favorite Things blog hop linky party. Did you get your entry in for the sweetheart giveaway? It ends tomorrow
ReplyDeleteYum, gumbo sounds good right now! I have only been to New Orleans once--20 years ago on a business trip for a week, but I was 5 months pregnant so did not get to enjoy the city as I would have liked! Someday I will go back and have some gumbo. I like your blue dishes and the little additions over time. Linda
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful to have you be a part of Seasonal Sundays!
