Today, I am thankful that my feeders are full in this cold, cold weather. The birds have been visiting the feeders all day. Hope you are keeping your feeders filled.

At the Feeders and in the Trees - Week 35
I love photographing birds in the snow and this week, I had that opportunity. The Northern Cardinals have been at the feeders daily with the snow on the ground covering their food sources.
Check out the crest of the cardinal in the first and last pic in the collage below.
The Purple Finches are just beautiful with the male having the raspberry-red head, cap, breast, back and rump.
Other visitors for the week included the Red-bellied Woodpecker, American Goldfinches, and . . .
the Downy Woodpecker.

The birds around my deck have really been busy this week. I've been filling the feeders often to make sure they have enough to eat. I had a surprise visit from an Orange-crowned warbler. He only visits my area during migration, so it is a delightful surprise to have him at my suet feeders.

My favorite shot of the week was the American Cardinal sticking his leg out to hop to another branch.

At the Feeders and in the Trees - Week 33
I'm happy to return to birding after an auto accident on December 17 which left me with no broken bones but lots bruising and pulled neck and shoulder muscles.
Lots of sweet birds have been visiting my feeders and I have been enjoying their visits.
The Purple Finches are here now in my area of Western Kentucky and they are always hungry. Notice the distinctive white eyebrow on the female Purple Finch. The female House Finch doesn't have the white eyebrow.
The Goldfinches aren't brilliant yellow in the winter but pretty easy to identify by their bills, wingbars, and lack of streaking.
BTW: My vehicle was totaled. I had the green light but the other driver came through her red light. Please wear your seatbelts, they do save lives - Judy.

Lots of sweet birds have been visiting my feeders and I have been enjoying their visits.
The cardinals visit the feeders more in the winter when food isn't as available to them in their natural habits. They often feed on the ground below the feeders.

They are eating the black-oil sunflower seeds right now. In the spring and summer, they like the nyjer seeds. I think I'll fill one of the upside down feeders with nyjer seeds and see if any are interested.
The Tufted Titmouse is pretty quick when he visits the feeders. I love his big black eye. A Mockingbird stopped by for a few bites from one of the suet feeders.
The Northern Mockingbird (10") is a much larger bird than the Tufted Titmouse (6-7").
The White-Throated Sparrow returns to our area in Winter. The white throat patch and yellow spots between the eyes help to identify him.
Last year he didn't visit my feeders until March but I first saw him on January 4th this year.

Holiday Home Tour 2018
My friend, Joy, was so kind to let me photograph and share her holiday home with you this year.
Here's Joy welcoming us at her front door.
Pottery Barn stockings for each of her grandchildren and nutcracker soldiers are just waiting for Santa to pop down the chimney.
Her table is set with Lenox Holiday Platinum china. The plates and bowl are decorated with holly and berries.
It's all Ho Ho Ho in the kitchen!
Here's Joy welcoming us at her front door.
Step inside to Joy's living room where the stockings are hung over the fireplace.
The shelves in Joy's living room are filled with family memories. You will notice the cute little red-tailed animal used throughout Joy's house. Keep it quiet but it's a clue to her last name!
Joy has a "Count Your Blessings" bowl on her coffee table in the living room. She says it is filled with blessings. I love these collages of her many family blessings displayed on the wall.
Joy's tree in the living room where ornaments with many memories fill the tree.
The tree seems to have multi-function lights. In the pic above they are white and in the pic below they are blue and green.
Let's go into Joy's dining room next. It's just off of the living room and it is festive too.
Her table is set with Lenox Holiday Platinum china. The plates and bowl are decorated with holly and berries.
Her flatware is Spode Christmas Tree.
To the right of the table is a bar cart ready for some holiday cheer.
Next is Joy's kitchen and breakfast area.
Her counters are decorated with lots of holiday touches from the coffee corner to the holiday baking area.
It's all Ho Ho Ho in the kitchen!
The breakfast area is "Merry & Bright" for a breakfast with her grandkids.
The table is set with Lenox Christmas melamine dishes. No worries for the grand kids here. The dishes are beautiful and no danger of breaking. You can see some small cups for kids and stemware for adults.
Just to the right of the breakfast table is a beautiful breadrack filled with Longaberger baskets.
Let's head upstairs for a few more holiday touches. On the way to the staircase, Joy had a gold nativity set made by her Mother-In-Law.
On the landing at the top of the stairs is a special chest with a small cabinet of dishes Joy's mother had as a child and a metal manger scene. Notice the angel holds a banner "Joy to the World".
One of Joy's guest rooms has lots of pillows and several are Christmas pillows.
Notice that cute fox picture on the night stand beside the bed.
Upstairs Family Room with lots of little foxes on the bean bags.
One last room to share, and it is a second guest room. Pretty "joy" pillow on the bed and notice those small granny glasses on the bed tray. They belonged to Joy's husbands great-grandmother.
As we head down the stairs, there is one more pic to remind us whose house we toured today.
