In the Garden and A New Project

I am still enjoying so much color in my gardens here in Eastern Kentucky. Even though it has been hot and very little rainfall lately, watering has been a must.

One night this week, I accidentally left the sprinkler on all night in one of the bed so those flowers were soaked. I'm sure they loved it.

My purple coneflowers are still holding on and the butterflies are visiting every day.

The zinnias are still blooming . . .

and I love to cut them daily for the table.

We even have them for the breakfast table. That was a very candid shot with our two grandsons and my hubby but you can see the flowers on the table.

You know I love taking pics of the butterflies and bees visiting the flowers. These were taken just this week.

A few sunflowers came up in pots and in the beds.

The goldfinches enjoy the seeds.

Now for the new project. Here it is hot as blazes outside, and we decided to undertake a landscaping makeover in the front yard in a bed near the road.

Here's a pic of this bed in the spring when the azaleas were blooming.

and here is it right now.

We kept the two azaleas and the crepe myrtles. The rest of the over grown bushes were taken out. Plus we decided to expand the bed. New concrete edging stones have been bought and dirt delivered. I'll keep you posted on our progress. It's terribly hot for a project like this, we must be crazy!

Thanks for stopping by - Judy.

  6. Judy, beautiful photography! But, you have so many lovely flowers in bloom. Mine have been so stressed and with no rain in six weeks except for a few sprinkles my watering has only kept the beds from going completely dry. Your project will be fun and I will look forward to watching it. Happy weekend.

  8. Lots of work it sounds. I stalk those butterflies some days, zinnas are a favorite. I always let a few feeder sunflowers grow.

New garden projects are so exciting! Have you thought about what you will plant there? Beautiful photos, by the way.

  13. Judy, thanks so much for stopping by Marmelade Gypsy. I love your beautiful photography. I know how hard it can be to get such good detail on such wee things as bees and how quickly those birds can move. That goldfinch photo is especially beautiful to me. You have a fabulous garden!

  14. Judy - I dream of a garden like yours where you can cut flowers every day and still have many. As you may know, we just moved to our new house in April and have new landscaping that is primarily natives that will self-propagate … perhaps in 10 years I will be able to freely cut flowers for my breakfast table! I look forward to updates on your 'crazy' project!

  16. Wonderful pictures of the butterflies on your flowers! Ooh I’m excited about your landscape project! I want to outline our front island with stones like that. It’s not much fun hefting them and getting them placed but looks so good when you are done. So glad you joined the Garden Party!

  17. Times are really changing. This morning at dawn there weren't any birds singing and I haven't seen a butterfly in weeks. The only good thing is the yellow jackets are slowing down. Last night we could even eat dinner outdoors on the picnic table. You have very lovely colourful flowers. Next year my goal is to grow more in the containers on my cabin deck. - Margy
