Holiday Express Train

Back for its 11th annual run, the Kansas City Southern's Holiday Express train brings Santa Claus and his elves to Union Station.

We visited Union Station and also toured the cars of the Holiday Express.

Santa's elves helped up board the train.

My grandson couldn't wait to have his turn driving the train.

Inside the cars the elves were busy in their workshop.

Christmas Vignette on the Sideboard

Christmas is just a few days away and I am still thinking about more places to decorate in my house. I made a vignette on the sideboard in my entry to share with you. I don't think I have every featured anything on my sideboard so you may not have seen my lamp that holds Peggy Karr plates. The plate is the 11 inch Reindeer. I love changing the plates for holidays.

Sitting in my cloche is a Harmony Kingdom Santa. Another Santa sits in front that is making his way down the chimney.

The Christmas tree is Fenton Glass.

I'm adding one more piece to the vignette, an Old World Ornament book.

My vignette includes a vintage table runner that belonged to my Mom so it is very special.

I made a few more adjustments to the vignette by moving the runner out a little. I decided I wanted more of it to show; now I am done. I wish my Mom was here to enjoy it with me but she passed away in 2004. My Dad who is 90 gave the runner to me.

Union Station (A Holiday Transformation)

Have you ever been to Union Station in Kansas City, MO? Today my family made our visit to the station to see its holiday transformation.The station was built in 1914.

This magnificent tree greets you as you enter the station. You can imagine its size by comparing the people in the picture to the size of the tree. There were so many people there, I couldn't get a shot of the tree by itself.

As air travel increased, the station fell into disrepair was closed in 1980 but was renovated and opened again in 1999. Each holiday season the station has it's Holiday Model Railroad Experience. People come to see the beautiful architecture of the building but kids (big and small) come to see the model trains.

If you look closely in this picture you can see the nutcracker standing in front of the tree on the right side.

Same shot just a little higher so you can see the ceiling and the gold stars and snowflakes handing from above.

Just in front of the two big trees is a cute little old train from Macy's (I think) that kids can ride. My two grandsons thought the train was so fun.

These were just a few of the many train exhibits. I always enjoy visiting Union Station so if you are ever in Kansas City, stop and visit the station.

Decorating the Tree with Paw-Paw

My husband loves to have our grandson help him decorate the tree in the family room. This year he brought the tree to our grandson's house and they decorated it in their downstairs family room.

Byers Choice Carolers

My daughter has been collecting Byers Choice Carolers for a few years. Her Dad bought her first with the young boy caroler holding the pickle. He said he wanted to get her a gift that he picked out so then the tradition began. Each year he has bought her a caroler and now I can show you her small collection.
