I got lucky again today; as I was looking out the window with my camera in hand, I snapped a few pictures of the Carolina Chickadee on a branch by one of the feeders.
He is such a cutie with his oversized round head, and tiny body.
The chickadee has a black cap and bib; white cheeks; gray back, wings, and tail. It has a whitish underside with buffy sides. You can see in the collage below that it has a long narrow tail and a short beak.
This was the first chickadee I have seen at my feeders here in Kentucky. Thanks for stopping by for another day of Life in Kentucky - Judy.

You can see that the black cap extends just below the black eye, and makes the eye hard to see.

ReplyDeleteI get excited when I see chickadees, too...not sure if they are blackcapped or Carolina chickadees. Whichever, they come fairly often in the winter to the feeders. I don't see them when the weather is warm. We do have lots of cardinal pairs...such beautiful birds.

I love chickadees...they make me smile every time. It's so funny to see them dart back and forth, one seed at a time. That quickness makes them hard to photograph though .., you did a wonderful job of catching them. Great post.

ReplyDeleteWe have chickadees year round in southern Ontario and they are the most gentle species with manners at a bird feeder. Wonderful photos!
