Black Swallowtail Butterfly

What a surprised I had when I went out to cut some lilac blooms in my yard. There on the blooms was a black swallowtail butterfly. Of course, I didn't have my camera, only sheers to cut the branches, I hurried back to the house, grabbed my camera and prayed the butterfly would still be there. Oh yes, it was still there and look what I captured.
Wasn't that just fabulous? Love it, so glad he waited for me to return.

The life cycle of a butterfly is always interesting yet fun for kids to learn. I borrowed and sited these images that show the stages of it's life cycle below.

  12. Yes that is very beautiful. Even if we have lots of swallowtails here in our property in the province, i haven't seen that species yet. Maybe we don't have it here.

  13. Judy,

Your lilacs are beautiful. Wish I could grow them in Tennessee. Love your pictures and thank you so much for your kind words on my blog. My blue dishes were on sale... but not as cheap as I wish they were. Also, thank you for the kind words about my carrot cake.

  16. First of all your lilacs are just gorgeous! Mine didn't bloom this year because I don't think we had a cold enough winter. It's hard to get a good shot of butterflies. Your photos are amazing!

  19. Oh my, Judy, first lilacs, then the butterfly, then enough luck to have him still there when you returned. The stars were in the right place for you that day! I can almost smell those lilacs. Linda
