A Visit from the Red-Headed Woodpecker

I had a unexpected visitor in the trees off of our deck. I was just shocked to see a Red-Headed Woodpecker when I opened the slider and looked  to the west end of  deck.

He is a first time visitor.

I photographed a red-headed woodpecker a couple of years ago at Kentucky Lake (seen here) but haven't seen one since.

My pics aren't great but I wanted to share.

I always thankful when I get a new bird in my trees. Thanks for stopping by - Judy.

  2. They are beautiful birds. I often see a red-bellied woodpecker on our light pole, but haven't seen a redheaded woodpecker in ages. Nice!

  3. I have a bird book and I mark each new discovery in that book. It's a fun thing to do.

  4. Hello Judy, The Red-headed Woodpecker is a beauty. One of my favorite woodies. Great sighting, lucky you!
