While I am stuck in the house recovering from yet another knee surgery, (revision of last February's complete knee replacement), I have decided to enjoy the view out some of the windows in our home here in Kentucky. These posts will all be titled: Looking Out the Window plus the name of what I am seeing out the window. This week, as I look out the window, we have two Foster's Holly in our yard and they are just beautiful with their bright red berries,
In the winter these dense, compact, upright trees produce deep red berries that we associate with the holidays. The leaves of the Foster's Holly are glossy dark green.

This holly is a female cultivar and can produce berries on her own. You don't have to plant a male to ensure berry production. So no pollination needed.
I'll need to feature my Foster's Hollies in the Spring when they have small white flowers. Thanks for stopping by for another day of Life in Kentucky - Judy

Judy, I love Foster's holly and have them across the front of the garage. I love having them especially during the holidays and using in the decorations. Yours are beautiful. I am enjoying watching your kitchen renovation. I am excited to see every step. We sure have similar taste. Hang in there, it's worth it!
ReplyDeleteHey that's a neat surprise to find in your new home, eh?
ReplyDeleteI had the healthiest loveliest holly bush (I planted when it was just a wee thing,) and it just grew and grew!
I had some landscaping done and they took it! I didn't tell them to leave it as I should have. I get upset every Christmas, haha. You know I didn't get many berries though- nothing like you do - WOW!
Pretty neat! Thanks for sharing. Hope that kitchen is lookin better and better, I am sooooo excited for you - what a huge task. I don't think I would ever have the nerve - esp when your kitchen really was pretty. I sooo need to redo ours but I don't think I will live long enough to see it happen. : - )
What a morbid thought, haha. Hugs. ♥
Oh my goodness Judy...the berry bush is beautiful! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteSorry you're couch bound! Wish a speedy recovery for your knee! The berries are dazzling!
ReplyDeleteJudy, this is beautiful! I love holly. I have a favor to ask...several of us have been posting photos of still-beautiful places in Cairo, Illinois, and you know which house is my FAVORITE! Would you mind if I shared your post about the Halliday house? (Is Mr. Shuemaker a relative? I have forgotten...) I couldn't find it readily on your blog, and of course wanted to ask first, anyway. (Someone on an "only in Illinois" (or something like that) FB page ~ posted a horrible article about Cairo, and posting good things is our rebuttal!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a speedy recovery!
Hugs,
Anne
(I have been such a bad blogger!!)
You are so blessed with these holly bushes right out your window. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Judy,
ReplyDeleteSo~o~o sorry to hear that you've endured another surgery, dear friend!
Praying that God will bring you comfort and rest along with healing for your knee.
The berries are beautiful on your bushes!
Happy Valentine's Day!
Fondly,
Pat
Hi Judy, I hope your healing process is a sepedy one. Those knee replacements can take time.
ReplyDeleteThe Holly bushes are quite lovely. Nothing like some color in Winter. Happy Valentine's Day. Don't forget we have a link party on Sunday afternoons.
A great attitude makes a lot of difference in your life and it's good to see you are not letting things get you down. The photos of the berries are nicely done.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Nature Notes Judy... I am so sorry you are recovering from knee surgery and I hope you get back on your feet soon. I don't think I have been to your blog before.
