Creating the Centerpiece for A Christmas Tablescape

I've been working on the centerpiece for a Christmas dinner party.  I always love to start with the centerpiece and go out from there. Whether it is elegant or casual, the centerpiece always makes a statement.

This dining room table is a large oval and about 104 inches in length; so I am creating a centerpiece that is proportional to this size.

In the center of the table a square framed mirror turned to a angle serves as a base for the centerpiece. A strand of silver ornaments is a beautiful garland surrounding the centerpiece.

Red poinsettias and sprays of red glittered berries are added to the garland.

The Lenox cookie jar sits on a small pillar for added height and becomes the local point.

Now it's time to start branch out so the rest of the table doesn't look unfinished and boring.  Candlesticks, mercury glass globes, red ornaments, more poinsettias,  and berries are added to expand the centerpiece yet still have room for china. Adding height keeps the table interesting.

Extra poinsettias and red ornaments were added on the back side of the table to keep both sides pretty.

The "Elf on the Shelf" character adds a bit of whimsy but could easily be removed.

A tabletop tree was added in the corner of the dining room.

With the tree on the table, guests can easily move around.

The tree is a frosted pine with white lights and red ornaments. The vase is mercury glass.

Soon the Lenox Holiday Nouveau china will be removed from the hutch and arranged for the tablescape.

The bell jar is an option for the centerpiece.

Merry Christmas - Judy.

  6. Your Lenox china is going to look exquisite with this centerpiece. It is really hard to get the proportions right on a centerpiece for a large tablescape. Yours is not only beautiful but perfect in size and depth.

  7. Hi, Judy! I saw some of those ornament garlands in gold and put several in my basket. Somewhere down the line I decided I didn't have room to store them, and I put them back. Ugh! So sorry I did not that I've seen what you did with them!!! This is a really nice centerpiece, and I like all the layers to it.

Great idea to put the tree up high so that guests are knocking into it!

Looks like you're well on your way to Christmas!!!

  8. Judy,
This tablescape is elegant, dear friend!!!
I, too, am using a touch of holly and ivy in my Traditional Christmas decor this year.
I love how you extended the centerpiece throughout the length of the table with more silver ornaments, candlesticks and poinsettias!
