Kiss Me Quick

I have a sweet Valentine table for you today. The old Elvis song "Kiss me Quick" was recorded by Elvis in 1961 and released in 1962 through RCA. and is the theme for my Valentine table.

When I decided to use this fabric for a table runner, Elvis came to mind with his "Kiss me Quick" song.

I'm setting a table for two to share with my Valentine sweetie! Fresh pink tulips, antique pinkish red china, and a big red heart style this Kiss Me Quick tablescape.

Although the two place settings aren't matching sets, they work together for this Valentine table.

The salad plate in the pic below is by Wood & Sons and made in England. The dinner plate is English Ironstone also made in England. Both plates were purchased at an estate sale and their color is a palish red.

The second place setting of dishes is from the Romantic England Red collection by J & G Meakin. The coloring on these transfer dishes is a little brighter red than the first place setting above. The salad plate is Penshurst Place and the dinner plate is Haddon Hall. These were purchased at antique stores on an outing with friends.

The fresh pink tulips were closed when I purchased them at my local grocery. By today, the flowers were beginning to open. Don't you just love tulips!

This table was a lot of fun to design. The runner brings a bit of whimsy to the table and the antique dishes bring romance.

This Kiss Me Quick table could be dedicated To My Love as the small heart box says.

Dinner for Six and Fun Friends

We are staying inside and inviting close friends over for an evening dinner. Come join us!

The table is set for the evening with a bit of glitz. Fine China placed on top of shiny gold charges and sparkling stemware set the tone for the evening.

Why not set the table and make it sparkle? Bring it on, a beautiful table and fun with friends!

The stemware is Sparkle by Waterford Crystal. Our friends will appreciate this elegant table.

In the center of each plate is an iridescent sherbet glass that belonged to my grandmother. I don't use these very often, but this dinner is the perfect time.

I'm keeping the centerpiece for the table low since there will be lots of talking and laughter across the table. The three small trees and white deer were a Christmas gift from my daughter.

The tablecloth is white brocade.

Other pieces of special stemware on the table are two Candlewick goblets that my dad gave my mom in the 1960's.

Because there are only two of these Candlewick goblets, I placed one at each end of the table setting.

Do you have special pieces of stemware or china that have a special meaning or tell a story?

Crystal napkins rings compliment the stemware.

Coffee will be served from the sideboard.

Spending time with loved ones and friends can bring such joy!

At the Feeders and in the Trees #44

I've been doing my At the Feeders and in the Trees series for a few years, my love for birds continues, so my series lives on into 2022. My blog began in 2011 with tablescapes and vignettes. Then in 2012, while continuing my tablescape posts, I started to branch out and began posting about birds.

This week, my feeders have been very busy with lots of birds visiting. Keeping my feeders filled is a must this time of year as food sources become scarce for them.

The Northern Cardinal is so stunning against the white snowflakes.

In additional to his brilliant red color, he has a distinguished black mask and large red bill.

It is always exciting to see the male and the female together. Did you know the male often feeds the female during courtship? This isn't happening right now but more in the springtime.

The cardinal is a very popular bird and is the state bird in several states. My feeders are stocked with black oil sunflower seeds, sunflower hearts and safflower seeds. These are all seeds that the cardinals enjoy.

Another popular bird that visits my feeders is the American Goldfinch.

In summer months, the American Goldfinch is a brilliant yellow; during the winter the colors are more subdued. You will see dramatic color changes in the male over the next few months.

The Goldfinches are flocking to the feeders. You can see several together below. They are eating the black oil sunflower seeds and also like Nyjer seeds.

Other visitors include finches, brown trasher, white-throated sparrow, chickadees and dark eyed junco.

Feathered Friends and the First Snow of 2022

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay

My, oh, my, what a wonderful day.

This little guy is just hopping along the deck enjoying the morning.

How beautiful to wake up to falling snow this morning. This is our first snow of the new year here in Western Kentucky. What a beautiful sight!

Seeing the birds at my feeders makes me thankful I had purchased a couple new ones and filled them before this snowfall.

We had a huge drop in temperature too! Yesterday the high was 62 degrees and today the high is 35 degrees. Right now, it 30 and feels like 21 with the wind.

I like to think the birds appreciate the feeders and the seeds. This feeder is filled with safflower seeds which the squirrels don't like to eat. Hope you have filled your feeders!

A Christmas Tablescape Featuring Cardinals, Reindeer & Tartan

Our Christmas table was set for our family of six. The centerpiece featured gold reindeer standing on an embroidery enhanced table runner.

The two reindeer stood beside two Fitz and Floyd candleholders tied with red and gold bows.

The tartan tablecloth brings the Christmas spirit to the table with its fun and festive colors.

Whether tartan is worn as clothing or used on the table, it has a rich history and I love seeing it at Christmas.

Topping the tartan tablecloth were place settings with gold glass chargers, gold rimmed china and Lenox Winter Greetings salad plates.

The Lenox Eternal Gold flatware and gold rimmed stemware add to the sense of regal on the tartan tablecloth.

It's always exciting to set our tables for Christmas and as our guests sit down for a delicious meal the joyful conversations turn into wonderful memories.

This year, our largest Christmas tree is in the dining room. We had ceiling water damage in our living room a few days before Thanksgiving and I wasn't sure if the living room would even be useable for Christmas. It looked like we might need to open presents in the dining room!

Water damage is the pitts! We are thankful the ceiling has been repaired (what a big mess) and I barely got my mantel decorated in time for our family dinner. None of my Fitz and Floyd Christmas pieces came out of their boxes this year.

I'll tell you more about the water damage and the fireplace facelift later. Now back to the table?

The Lenox Winter Greetings china pattern is a beautiful setting of cardinals perched in a ring of pinecone, holly and mistletoe. If you look closely, you can also see a sweet chickadee at about 11 o'clock on the ring of pinecones, holly, mistletoe and red ribbon. The chickadee seems to be holding a piece of the ribbon in his beak.
