Bringing Out A Little Green

With Valentine's Day over, I brought out a few green things this weekend.

A Shamrocks plate by Peggy Karr. I'm so glad I collected her plates and trays over the years because this American artist is now retired and no more of her pieces are being made. If you happen to find one in a shop and like it, you should buy it because they are getting hard to find.

A green vase filled with flowers and ferns.

A pair of green spring birds to set on a shamrock table runner.

A green pair of dancers for a nod to the Chinese New Year. I only bring this pair out once a year about this time. They were passed down from my grandmother to my mom and then to me.

Thanks for stopping in for a little burst of green - Judy.

Dinner With Family & Friends

Don't you love to have friends and family over for dinner? We certainly love to enjoy time with them. There are always funny stories to tell and lots of laughter around the table or on the deck.

It's graduation weekend at Murray State University here in Murray, KY, so the restaurants are packed and busy, busy, busy accommodating the graduates and their families.

We decided to entertain at home and not venture out to the restaurants. This is the second weekend in a row we have had the pleasure of having friends and family over for dinner. We sure love their company.

Right now the magnolias are blooming in our area so my table is featuring a magnolia plate by Peggy Karr Glass in the center of the table.

I thought the plate is perfect with the table runner. My friend, JoAnn, over at Jo's This and That made the runner for me from a tablecloth she wasn't using. She made the runner on my table last week too. Check it out here

I love the print on the runner.

Crystal candlesticks and white candles anchor each side of the magnolia plate.

The table was sit with white Paula Deen dinner plates topped with salad plates by Royal Norfolk. Flatware is Laurie Gates by Hampton - Sizzle Ivory. Water goblets are bubble glass.

Just as much as we enjoy entertaining, my husband loves to cook on the grill for our guests. The menu included salad made by JoAnn, then on the grill were pork steaks, skewers of tomatoes, small potatoes, green and yellow squash. Plus he grilled fresh asparagus and heated sauerkraut on the grill too.

There you have it, another dinner party at our house. Thanks for stopping by for another day of Life in Kentucky - Judy.

Christmas Home Tour - Part 1

I have shared many posts from my daughter and SIL's house in Kansas City and since I am at their house recuperating from a complete knee replacement, I'm featuring their house for a Christmas Home Tour.

This beautiful silver ball at the entry came from Nell Hill's in Kansas City.

The living room furniture gets rearranged for the holidays to make room for her 9 foot tree. Her white couch from Nell Hill's gets moved from in front of the white shutters to the right side of the room.

The pillow on the couch is from Pottery Barn. I love the berry wreath.

On the baby grand piano sits a couple of Byer's Choice Carolers.

The sideboard on the right side of the room holds another display of Byer's Choice Carolers.

"Ernie" their Elf on the Shelf is making an appearance on a silver glittered reindeer.

Back at the entry you can look to the right and see the dining room.

The chartreuse and silver theme is carried to the dining room.

The table is decorated with:

several new Mercury Glass Balls on candlesticks

silver glittered deer,

chartreuse ornaments,

and two small chartreuse trees,

The four Mercury Glass balls are also from Nell Hills.

Her china buffet is filled with her Lenox China and Lenox Christmas china.

Let's take a peek into their bedroom where they have a 7 foot tree. We try to use 100 feet of lighting per tree. Their bedding is mostly from Restoration Hardware.

The dresser holds a hammered metal lamp with a few more carolers and the large white jar. I love the reflection in the mirror.

For the last couple of shots of the main floor, you can see the hearth room.

The plates are by Peggy Karr Glass, the front one is four stockings and the other three are plates of the Kansas City Plaza at Christmas.

Thanks for stopping in for a Christmas Home Tour - Part 1. I'm working on Part 2 where I will feature the second floor of their home - Judy.

Rose Fold Napkins on A Red Valentine Tablescape

I have been working on my red Valentine tablescape and now it is ready. It really didn't take long to set; taking the pictures seemed to take me a lot longer. You know how we worry about taking the right shots for our tablescapes.

I wanted to use doilies on the table so I bought red ones and white ones. My napkins are folded in a Rose fold, I'll give you a link below to a tutorial (easy). The trinket boxes were inexpensive and I thought they added a nice touch sitting in the bowls.

The red goblets were a gift from my Dad.

Those of you who often visit my blog know I love Peggy Karr plates so, of course, I wanted to add my Peggy Karr Hearts plate to the table. Peggy is an American artist who works with fused glass.

I added a little chocolate candy to the table and there is a special little gift box in the center with a gift for my husband.

My husband gave me the black candelabra for a Christmas gift. I really like it with my Valentine table.

I used a white floral arrangement in my red Fitz and Floyd vase and added it to my bread rack in the kitchen.

Now a few votive candles and the mood is set.

Here is a link for a tutorial on the Rose fold, it is pretty easy. Thanks for stopping by to see my Red Valentine Tablescape - Judy.

Feed the Cardinals

I think we all start to think about the birds having enough food in Winter and since I love cardinals, displaying by Peggy Karr Cardinal plate always reminds me that I need to be sure and feed the cardinals in my backyard. Seeing those bright red feathers of the male cardinal is so stunning, I can't take my eyes off of them. They don't migrate so we need to pay special attention to them in the Winter. This long-trailed songbird has a very thick beak and whistles a sweet song. The females are pale brown with warm reddish tinges on her wings, tail and crest.

If you are looking for a feeder that cardinals will love, here are a couple of pictures:

Feeder images from: http://www.duncraft.com/. They like to eat black oil sunflower seed, safflower seeds or pieces of fruit.

Thanks for stopping by and remember to feed the cardinals - Judy.
