At the Feeders and in the Trees - Week 26

I had several different birds at my feeders and in the trees lately. A juvenile house sparrow was fun to watch this week.

I like this shot of the little guy fluttering up to try and get a bite from one of the suet feeders. You know how I love to capture wings moving and birds in flight.

I've been seeing the brown thrasher for a couple of weeks. You can't miss his bright yellow eyes.

The Brown Thrasher is about 11' in length. He is a rusty red bird with a long tail and heavily streaked chest and belly. Check out his long rusty red tail below.

The bluejay, mockingbird, and brown thrasher have been enjoying the meal worm cake.

Even the Northern Cardinal liked the meal worm cake.

It doesn't get much better than seeing the beautiful cardinals on the deck and in my trees.

The Carolina Chickadee visits year-round in Western Kentucky. This one grabs a seed and moves away quickly.

I recently had a new visitor at my feeders and have seen this Yellow-Rumped Warbler several days in a row.

He is one of the few warblers to spend the winter in Kentucky. I am so thankful he stopped by my feeders.

There you have it for another week of At the feeders and in the Trees. Thanks for stopping by - Judy.

  2. Wonderful pics. I have tried and tried to get a brown thrasher, but they are so quick and hide in the leaves. Lucky you!

  3. Wow, you have been having a great variety. I can only hope that it won’t be long before Brown Thrashers start showing up here, but our winter seems to be going on forever this year. The forecast is for a bit of a warming trend. We can only hope!

  6. I love visiting your feeders and yard birds. Kentucky cardinals (or Florida ones for that matter) make me think of my mom and smile.

Hi Judy, Thanks for stopping by the blog via Saturday's Critters. I love seeing your variety of birds. The brown thrasher is GA's state bird but I rarely see them! The Cardinals are especially pretty this time of year.

  16. Hello, Judy -- thank you for coming by Marmelade Gypsy. You have some gorgeous birds at your feeder. I'm with you on the cardinals -- they're stunning, but those yellow eyes on that one (great photo) were especially striking!
