At the Lake - Family Fun

When we moved to Western Kentucky in late 2015, we were thrilled to live 20 minutes from Kentucky Lake.

We have been boaters for a number of years, so the lake life is one we love.

Although I have made several posts about the lake (mostly birds on the lake), I have decided to start a new series called "At the Lake" and share some of the beauty of Kentucky Lake and our adventures.

The Great Blue Heron resides on Kentucky Lake and there are lots of them.

We celebrated Mother's Day at the lake on Sunday afternoon with our daughter and family.

Our daughter brought several pots of flowers to go on the end of the finger between their boat and ours. I secured the pots with a rope for now, they shouldn't blow off. We will water the flowers with lake water. The fish emulsion is so good for the plants, no other fertilizers are needed.

We took our boat out in Cypress Bay to check out some of the damage from recent storms.

There were several trees down.

Then out into the channel for some real cruisin'.

For us, boating is great family time, the grandsons don't bring any "electronics." It's just fun times on the lake.

After the family left the lake, we decided to take our fishing boat out for a spin around the bay. It gave us time to talk about our day on the lake. We are so grateful for our family and having the chance to enjoy the lake together.

The end of a perfect day on Kentucky Lake.

I would love to hear what you enjoy doing in your spare time - Judy.

  1. Oh, my gosh, Judy! How beautiful and serene it must be! Just to be able to kick back and let life happen...what a wonderment! My son travels about 2 hours from the Kansas City area to visit his Dad who lives at the lake somewhere in the Tan-Tar-A area (I think), and he just loves it. Like your grandsons, he just leaves the electronics behind and enjoys the nature around him. It's a beautiful thing, and I'm glad you and your family are able to readily enjoy it. Have a great week!

  2. That is so nice. We live by a lot of lakes but don't have a boat. I want one. My dad used to be a river guide and had a boat but sold it before he passed. I'd love a boat. Beautiful photos and video. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Living by water is wonderful, isn't it? Rick is north, opening the cottage this week. Alas, I couldn't go but am eager to spend the summer on the lake in Northern Michigan. Seeing your boat made me wish we still had ours. What fun!

  4. Judy - that's summer in a post! Boating. A beautiful lake. Family time. And what a nice touch to put flowers on the "finger". In my spare time, I get together with friends, and I volunteer with a climate organization. And I have started playing in the garden again! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!
