Springtime in Our Kentucky Yard

It is such a joy when Spring arrives and the flowers and trees begin to bloom here in Western Kentucky where we live.

Forsythia with their bright yellow blooms are the first signs of spring in our yard. Did you know it has the common name of Easter tree.

The jonquils are also early bloomers in our area. Seems like I had more blooms this year than last.

Love this white jonquils with the yellow centers.

The jonquils make lovely arrangements for the table.

The bearded iris just started blooming this week in my flower bed;  the deep purple color is just stunning. So showy!

You can see the buds on the azalea just behind the iris starting to open.

We had frost a few nights ago; I covered my azaleas (and lots of other plants and shrubs) with sheets trying to keep the buds from freezing. Looks like my precautions saved the buds

Creeping phlox are blooming. They have five-star blooms that can reach an inch across.

Redbuds are such a beautiful addition to our yard. Their pink blooms are on the stems and branches of the trees.

Our dogwoods are young trees and have rewarded us with white blooms and pink blooms.

Thanks for stopping by to see the blooms in my Western Kentucky yard - Judy.

  5. Judy - this brings back so many memories of springs in Ohio. I was always amazed how the forsythia blooms seem to emerge overnight and from branches devoid of any other life!!! Your bearded iris are spectacular! I am glad you were able to save your plants from an overnight frost. We are in the middle of a snowstorm here ... "spring" in Montana! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!

  11. Your lovely Spring flowers remind me of our Spring here in Australia. We are in Autumn but my Spring flowering bulbs are just coming through the ground so I will have to wait till September. Thanks.
