At the Feeders and in the Trees - Week 37

On February 15, 2019, we woke up to a shiny wonderland with ice on the trees

and lots of birds at the feeders. I'm sure they were very hungry since they couldn't get to food on the ground. Ice was also on the feeders which made for beautiful photos. Take a look:

It was such a pleasure to just keep photographing the birds in nature.

Notice the goldfinch on the left flying in on the left in the pic below.

I had a first-time time visitor for me to photograph. The Yellow-Rumped Warber was eating safflower seeds on the deck.

I believe this is the female because the male has a black mask on his face. Both the male and the female have the yellow patch on the rump seen in the next two pics.

The Purple Finches are still hanging around our feeders. I'm not sure when they leave us.

The male and female cardinals are just amazing to watch. I love how the female is cocking her head in the second pic in the collage.

I like this capture of the two cardinals and the male with his wing extended.

Hope you have been enjoying the birds in your area - Judy.

  1. It looks like they'll get their little 'toes' cold! lol So nice to have feeders during the winter months to make sure they have lots to eat. We have the yellow rumped warbler here too. I always laugh when Eileen calls it by it's nickname...Butterbutt! See...I'm laughing now! Hugs!

  2. Judy - wow, wow, wow. I love the action shots - wings extended, coming in for a landing. I felt I was there with you. And congrats on a newbie for you - the warbler. It's always a big thrill when that happens. My bird feeders are full of the usual - siskins, chickadees, juncos, nuthatches, downy woodpeckers. This morning, I could have sworn the little brown rabbit hanging around under the feeders was nibbling on sunflower seeds! Thanks for joining Mosaic Monday again this week!

  7. Beautiful winter birds... and your feeders are even more popular in that weather I’m sure! Congrats on the warbler first time visitor ... easy to see where it gets its name! The cardinal pictures remind me of Christmas cards, the only way I ever saw that bird for the first 50 plus years of my life!
