The American Goldfinches are just a beautiful small bird. I love seeing them at my feeders.

I'd Rather Be Birdin' on Saturday at noon
They are really one of my favorites with their their bright yellow color in the spring and summer and hints of a paler yellow in the winter.
This time of year in Kentucky, the goldfinch's face is a paler yellow with grayish brown underparts. This one is eating nyjer food.
You can see in the photo below their wings are black with white markings. This pair is eating from a seed cake.
They also love to eat black oil sunflower seeds from a cling feeder below.
The American Goldfinch was enjoying nyjer food but was run off by a female House Finch. Glad he has a mouthful of food to take with him.

ReplyDeleteI love the little goldfinch..Over the last decade the winter goldfinch flock has grown to over 50 that come to the feeders as a flock...I have many feeders up in the winter because of this.....Michelle
