Nothing is more welcome than when spring arrives in our gardens. The azaleas are blooming and their color is just stunning in our landscaping project from last year.
I was surprised when I took the picture below that a Yellow Swallowtail Butterfly was fluttering around the azaleas sipping the nectar.
New Dimension Blue Salvia is in bloom. I'm hoping I will have success in trimming the tops after they finish bloom for rebloom in the fall.
Vernique Blue Speedwell is also blooming in the front bed.
Our Redbud trees are starting their third year and presented beautiful blooms this year.
This yellow flower may be just a weed or a wildflower, but I've been enjoying it's brilliant color.
In the backyard gardens, Daylilies are growing but it's too early to see any blooms. Hubby bought me a sweet little rabbit for Easter to sit in the gardens.
One of the beds in our backyard is around a tree and is in the shade the biggest part of the day. It's perfect for hostas, ferns, astilbe and columbine.

Little Lantern Columbine is presenting showy blooms of red and yellow.
The blooms on the columbine are so delicate that I try to never touch them. Wild blue violets have popped up by the Columbine.

I'm not sure about my iris plants. I cut the fans and replanted them last fall during our big landscaping project.
They produced beautiful foliage, but only one iris bloomed. I'm thinking they have not been getting enough sun in this location.

The columbine grows near hostas and garden ferns.
Astilbe plants are up and will soon produce beautiful showy flowers. (check back later for blooms)

Judy - first of all, welcome back to Mosaic Monday. It's so nice to see you again, and what a post! Bam! Your garden is what I am dreaming of - we are probably a full month behind you … My columbines are sprouting nicely and I have been careful to protect them from critters with some chicken wire … I am sure you will figure out what to do about your iris - one of the things I enjoy most about gardening is the experimentation! You have luscious layouts in your flower beds; thanks for sharing them with all of us at Mosaic Monday!

ReplyDeleteWell you spring flowering blooms look fabulous! Love those azaleas. I’d give the iris a couple of years to re-establish themselves. I bet next year they’ll really perform. How nice to see butterflies already. We’re in our infancy of spring right now so no blooms just yet. Those are beautiful columbine and I love your new bunny!

ReplyDeleteAmazing flowers Judy...it’s like visiting a Botanical Garden that big crews take care of ...with your different dedicated spots , the shade garden under the tree ....(I love.,.and miss seeing ...those delicate flowers, which don’t grow much in this part of Florida). The Columbine is wonderful and the azaleas too ....
ReplyDeleteYour garden is looking wonderful! I'm crossing my fingers that you get a second or third bloom out of your blue salvia. I cut mine down as soon as they start to fade. I think one year I got three sets of blooms when we had a hot fall.

ReplyDeleteHi Judy, all of your hard work paid off! Your new beds are looking great The azaleas are just beautiful and I love the color you chose. We've had a glorious spring here, cool weather and sunny days. Perfect for working outside. We are a little ahead of you, our azaleas have bloomed out. My day lilies are beginning to bloom now. I set out new lavender plants but they are not looking good. I'm afraid they are not getting enough sun. Hope you get your fall blooms from your salvia. Thanks for the garden tour. Happy Week.......

ReplyDeleteYour garden is so beautiful! I am amazed you already have butterflies. It is jsut beginning to thaw out where I live in Colorado and spring flowers are just beginning to bloom.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers look very happy and of course are mighty gorgeous. The yellow wildflowers remind me of echinacea flowers. Gardening is a lot of work, but I enjoy it, too. The last few days I've been deadheading daisies. :-)
ReplyDeleteYour spring garden is a lovely place. I especially like the butterfly that popped in for a visit, and the wild violets growing among the other flowers. My blue salvia has a long ways to go before blooming, and I'm interested in seeing if trimming it after blooming will result in another flush of flowers. Wouldn't that be lovely?
ReplyDeleteLovely garden and your azalea is gorgeous. I'm thinking that the irises may have been planted too deep. The rhizomes need to be partially exposed to the sun.
