Looks Who's Back

I am thankful to see the Rose-Breasted Grosbeak return to my feeders. 

A female cardinal and the grosbeak share a little space on the feeder filled with safflower seeds. 

The Ruby-throated hummingbirds have also returned to my feeders.

A Visit from the American Goldfinch

It's wonderful to see the American Goldfinch in their beautiful brilliant yellow color at the feeders. 

During the winter months this perky 5 inch male bird isn't bright yellow but it much paler with a dull olive yellow color. 

He does visit my feeders all winter so it is exciting to watch him return to his spring and summer colors.

Purple Blooms on the Table and in the Yard

Spring Greetings Friends in Blogland

Today I'm sharing purple blooms on the table and in the yard. This post is all about purple. Hope you enjoy it. 

All things purple indicate the welcome of spring. 

Sweet purple teapots are ready for serving tea.

Eye-catching purple lobelia and purple verbena are used for this spring table. Soon they will be planted in my gardens. 

Purple lilacs are blooming now. 

Do you like the aroma of the lilacs. I like the smell of them while I am outside but cannot bring them indoors. 

I think it's going to take me a few more days to get these flowers planted, here's the look from our deck. Rain and lots of puddles. It's a swamp out there! 

Between rain showers, I did take pics of purple blooms in the front and back yard. You can see the iris blooms are drooping.

My friend has a purple bottle tree in her yard.

The Iris in my front beds are blooming too. Thank goodness I took these pics before the rain. 

I wasn't always a big purple fan but when I moved to Kentucky and saw the stunning colors of purple, my heart softened and now I just love purple. 

I'm leaving my white rabbits and purple flower arrangement on the hearth for a while longer.

At the Feeders and in the Trees - Week 26

I had several different birds at my feeders and in the trees lately. A juvenile house sparrow was fun to watch this week.

I like this shot of the little guy fluttering up to try and get a bite from one of the suet feeders. You know how I love to capture wings moving and birds in flight.

I've been seeing the brown thrasher for a couple of weeks. You can't miss his bright yellow eyes.

The Brown Thrasher is about 11' in length. He is a rusty red bird with a long tail and heavily streaked chest and belly. Check out his long rusty red tail below.

The bluejay, mockingbird, and brown thrasher have been enjoying the meal worm cake. 

Even the Northern Cardinal liked the meal worm cake.

It doesn't get much better than seeing the beautiful cardinals on the deck and in my trees.

The Carolina Chickadee visits year-round in Western Kentucky. This one grabs a seed and moves away quickly. 

I recently had a new visitor at my feeders and have seen this Yellow-Rumped Warbler several days in a row. 

He is one of the few warblers to spend the winter in Kentucky. I am so thankful he stopped by my feeders.

A Visit From the Yellow-Rumped Warbler

I had a new visitor to my feeders today, the Yellow-Rumped Warbler. It was pretty exciting for me since he was a first time visitor.

This bird is a slate gray bird with black streaks on the breast. 

He has a yellow patch on the head, flanks, and rump. 

He has a white chin and belly. 

He also has two white wing bars. I read that this yellow-rumped warbler rarely comes to suet feeders but I first saw him on one of my suet feeders. 

Today was an exciting first for me. I am thankful for this visit from the warbler plus I am thankful the sun is shining, and it is a beautiful spring day here in Western Kentucky - Judy.
