As I was looking out the window, this cute little Dark-eyed Junco was hopping around on our deck. He wasn't on a feeder or sitting on a branch but instead just hopping around on the deck.
He looked dark gray with some brown and a pretty pink bill.
He has outer tail feathers but they aren't too visible in my pictures.
I read here the Dark-eyed Junco is a medium-sized sparrow and are birds of the ground. They hop around looking for fallen seeds. That explains why it was hopping around on the deck and not on a feeder or branch.
I read they are one of the most frequently reported birds at bird feeders. A day or so later, another Dark-eyed Junco was on one of the feeders and my daughter took some pics of this one eating nyger food.
Thanks for stopping by another day of Life in Kentucky - Judy.

ReplyDeleteHi JB, some great photos here. I will have to look to see if we have some. There are so many birds at our feeders I can't always identify them. Hope you are doing well.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of a lovely little bird!
ReplyDeleteLove your pretty close-ups. Always special to watch the birds feeding.
ReplyDeleteHappy Day……...
Wonderful views of the little junco. We have a small flock during the winter at the feeders..Michelle
ReplyDeleteI love it when birds visit my garden! You are so good at knowing the names. I think I need to get a bird book. :) Thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,

Some very nice looking Juncos.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos.
ReplyDeleteHello, Sweet shots of your Juncos. They are a winter bird for me! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful!! The light catching on the eyes of the 2nd junco is incredible. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for linking in at I'd Rather B Birdin'. The post was wonderful. Your photos are terrific for all of us birders this weekend!!
I see them doing the same on our deck. The woodpeckers and nuthatches peck away at the suet feeder, and juncos look around for the crumbs that fall.
