Looking Out the Window - The Northern Cardinal

Looking out my window today, I was so thrilled to finally get pictures of the Northern Male Cardinal. This gorgeous red bird is one you just can't takes your eyes off.

For several weeks, I have been waiting for a cardinal to stop a minute or so on the River Birch tree out my window. Today was my lucky day!

I have been watching them from a distance all winter even on snowy day. They don't migrate and the male is just breathtaking all year round with his stunning red color.

The cardinal is an active songbird and sings more than one melody.

The bright red color is one of the keys to his success in the mating season. The brighter the better!

I intend to feed the cardinals year round here in Kentucky so maybe they will visit my feeders often and I can continue taking pictures of them.

Thanks for stopping by for another day of Life in Kentucky - Judy

  1. Hello, the Cardinals are beautiful yard birds. You feed them the birds will come. I like to hang feeders close to my windows so I see the birds up close. Great shots! Happy Monday, enjoy your new week!

  12. We do miss seeing so many birds, like the cardinals, once we moved into town. Male Cardinals are quite territorial, so you'll typically only see one male, (the bright red ones) at a time, he'll quickly chase any other male that dares to show his face off very quickly... however, we did have 5 in view one especially hard winter when they were all trying to get to the feeder, (they love suet!) Thanks for sharing your Cardinal, nice to see it.
