Don't you just love Gold Finches? I certainly do and watching them is such a thrill. Do you see the one at the top of the flower basket hanger?
You can see the finch taking off because there is a bird flying in on the right. Sorry the bird coming in is a bit blurry.
We use niger feed in the feeders for these feisty little birds.They are year round residents in our area. I love when spring comes and the goldfinches begin to turn their brilliant shades of bright yellow.
Did you know the goldfinches are granivorous birds that subsist almost entirely on seeds. They even feed their chicks regurgitated seeds. No insects for these little guys.
If you plant seed-bearing flowers such as sunflowers or coneflowers, you may be able to attract them naturally.
