We had the privilege to attend the wedding of our dear friends' daughter recently. Take a look at the gorgeous couple.
The wedding ceremony was performed at the Morning Side Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA.
The reception was at The Georgian Terrace on Peachtree Street in Atlanta and WOW, what a party it was! For a surprise and bit of fun, the wedding party entered the room with sunglasses on and dancing to the Motown music.
The bride and grown danced their traditional dance. I'll give you a little info about the Georgian Terrance in a bit, just think about Gone With The Wind.
Then the party began with the live band the Heather Hayes Experience, Heather and her band sang and performed the whole evening and what an experience they were. Heather is the daughter of legendary soul singer, actor and music producer, Isaac Hayes. The music was mostly Motown and they were really crowd-pleasers.
Even my grandson and one of the groom's nieces danced. He had never met her before. He danced with her twin sister too!
There were several food stations. The biggest hit was the mashed potato bar. That was the first time I had seen one, usually, I have seen potato bars but the mashed was popular for the reception. Below is another bar, I think it was a pasta bar.
The tables were simple elegant.
The cake was beautiful, do you see the brooches on two layer? The cake was made by Frosted Pumpkin in Atlanta. The bottom layer was red velvet, the second layer was buttercream, the third layer was carrot cake and the anniversary layer was red velvet.
Now for the historical information about the Georgian Terrance and the connection to Gone With The Wind. The premiere of Gone with the Wind was in
Atlanta in 1939. All of the stars and the Director of the movie (with
the exception of Vivien Leigh and her lover at the time, Lawrence
Olivier) stayed at the Georgian Terrace. The Fox Theater is across the street from the Georgian Terrace.
So just imagine, having your wedding reception in the same room where Clark Gable and the cast of Gone With the Wind partied. Wow, how special is that!!
The bride and her family are long time dear friends of ours and we were just thrilled to share this fabulous day with them.
