I have been waiting for them to bloom so I could create a lilac tablescape. They are Dwarf Korean lilacs and generally bloom in late spring. The flowers are very fragrant and beautiful and since we are having an early Spring, they are blooming a bit early.
I am using my silver plate footed water pitcher (International Silver Company) as a vase for the lilacs. Most of my silver is packed away but I got lucky and found one box and this silver piece was inside. It was totally black, so I spent about thirty minutes polishing. I also placed a glass inside the pitcher to serve as a vase-in-a-vase. I do love the lilacs and the silver together.
The stemware is Fostoria and the vintage silverplate flatware is the Daffodil pattern by Rogers Brothers. My Dad bought the flatware for my Mom years ago and after she passed away, he gave it to me. So sweet and now such a special treasure.
I made a small bouquet of lilacs tied with a lilac ribbon for the center of each plate and tucked another in each napkin.
I'll take you out to my yard for a few photos of my lilac bushes. I was so excited as I got close to the bushes and there was a Black Swallowtail butterfly on the blooms.
The napkins are lilac hemstitch with silver Godinger napkins rings. My white dishes are inexpensive but I am happy with them in this tablescape especially since they are the only white ones I have at this time. I have never collected white dishes but I may work on that.
I am very happy with my lilac tablescape, it seems so elegant and serene. You are welcome to stop by any time and sit at my table - Judy.

ReplyDeleteBeautifully done, perfect in every way.
So springy and elegant!
ReplyDeleteI think it would be great fun to come in and sit at your table, Judy!:-) Such a beautiful tablescape! My very small lilac bush, which was set out last year, is really proud of itself and giving us a few blooms!
ReplyDeleteYour lilacs are beautiful and I swear I can smell them! What a pretty table! I love all the white and the touch of silver--SO elegant! Your butterfly photo is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post today Judy. I was just aswoon at those lilacs. My are just about to pop out, but the bush is not within my eyesight so I have to go out and look each day so that I don't miss their glory. I love them in my house but my hubby has bad allergy to them so I have to be careful where I put them. God is so good in blessings us with the beauty of nature. Blessings to you and family this Easter week.

Beautiful table - lilacs are my favorite flower. Our bushes are not quite as far along as yours - I might have to see what kind of table I can put together when they are in full bloom.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. I love your gorgeous lilacs. Stunning. The silver pitcher is awesome and such a great vase. Beautiful tablescape. Thanks so much for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThe photography here is just wonderful. I love the lilac with the silver. I planted a dwarf Korean a couple of years ago - it was a half dead $3.00 specimen off the half dead rack at Lowes. It is finally about 3 feet tall and will have some decent blooms this year. Yeah! Probably won't be quite as lush as yours though! Nice post.
ReplyDeleteOh, you lucky girl having lilacs! They are beautiful!Stopping by from Tuesday's Treasures.
ReplyDeleteWow--that tablescape is gorgeous! The lilacs are so pretty--I want one of those small lilac bushes. My lilacs are just starting to show signs of life--I will be so excited to be able to have lilacs in the house. They are one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love your table; the lilacs, the silver, and just everything about it. Thank you for sharing. Feels like spring for sure now. ~m

Your lilacs are beautiful! I love your silver as well. The detail of the flower at the end is gorgeous. I'd love it if you'd share this at my weekly link party going on right now at www.thenymelrosefamily.blogspot.com/2012/04/whimsy-wednesdays-6.html. I'm a new gfc follower.
ReplyDeleteStunning, stunning, STUNNING! The silver pitcher is the perfect 'vase' for the lilacs! We are 1100 miles away from ours currently, and I'm afraid with the early spring we will miss them. So, I'll be enjoying YOURS! Just beautiful!

Judy, thanks for your sweet comment on my one year blog birthday. You know what comment mean to a blogger and you're so good to leave them. I stopped by and your posts on the swallowtail and then the lilacs and silver were amazing (I have never told another blogger "amazing"). I tried to make sure I was a follower on GFC and it wasn't working (shock) so I made sure of Linky Followers. You do a wonderful job on your posts. highpointcircle
ReplyDeleteWow, this is a beautiful table, Judy...I can almost smell the lilacs. Sadly mine have passed for another year, the season for the blossoms is far too short. I think your flatware is such a pretty pattern and I am betting it makes you smile each time you use it, thinking of your mother.
ReplyDeleteGirl........the Marine Corps is going to be tracking you down to find out your secret to their equivalent to a "spit shine"!!!!!!!! My word! You did a fantastic job on that pitcher! I could see well enough to pluck my eyebrows in that thing!!!!!! The lilacs are beautiful, and I can only imagine the fragrance they brought to the room. I absolutely love lilacs. Several neighbors have bushes in their yards, and it is just about all I can do to keep from attacking with a pair of shears! The napkin color is beautiful, too...soft, but not wimpy. No one would ever know whether or not your white dishes were a $ or a $$$. They are pretty with a simple design that could go with just about anything, and that's all that matters! Beautiful table, Judy!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a very elegant table, Judy! It is absolutely gorgeous. I can almost smell them from here. I love your beautiful silverware pattern. What a precious keepsake!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful the lilacs with the silver! This is such an elegant table!
ReplyDeleteJudy, the table is lovely! I can imagine the wonderful aroma! Ours haven't bloomed yet, can't wait.
ReplyDeleteLove the silver and white with the lilac, very elegant.

Holy moly, your tablescape is exquisite! I have the same water glasses (or iced tea glasses? I always get them confused)-they are so pretty and have served me well for years and years.

Judy, I love your mom's flatware with the pretty daffodils. And your lilacs are incredible. I have tried for years to grow lilacs with mixed success. Two lilacs topiaries were very damaged last October in the surprise snow storm, and I am waiting for them to bloom again. One recommendation to you: be careful if you start collecting white dishes--it is an addiction from which I suffer!!!! Who can say "No" to a pretty white dish? Linda
ReplyDeleteSo lovely. The lilacs, white china and silver centerpiece make a winning combo.
