I was up early the other morning and looked out the widow to check the bird activity at the feeders and in the frees. Lots of birds were visiting so I grabbed my camera. The light was not bright, and it bounced off the green leaves of the trees by my deck. The pics all have a greenish background that I have lighten so give you a better view of the birds.
The male Goldfinches are starting to show their brilliant yellow color for the season.
I was thrilled to click the Goldfinch just raising his wings to take off. It's fun to capture pics of the birds just before flight.
In the top pic of the collage, the male Goldfinch in the middle seems to be giving some food to the Goldfinch on the right.
The Rose-breasted Grosbeaks are returning to our area. The next collage shows the female Grosbeak. Her most distinguishing mark is her eyebrow. Once you know to look for the eyebrow, she is a dead giveaway to identifying her. Her chest is streaked with brown and white, and she has a big beak.
The male Rose-breasted Grosbeak is much more colorful. He is just bursting with color with his black, white and red/rose color body. He is a showstopper!
The female Cardinal has her own beauty. She isn't brightly colored like the male, she is a warm buffy color, then has red-orange color on her wings, tail, and crown. She does have a crest that you can really see in the next collage. She just kept moving her head and I kept snapping pics.
In the next collage, you see a Goldfinch and a Rose-breasted Grosbeak on the feeder together. In the top pic notice the Goldfinch's leg lifted. Then in the bottom pic of the collage, the Goldfinch is just about ready to fly away. I bet you checked out the female Grosbeak's eyebrow too.
I would love to hear what birds you are seeing in your area - Judy.
