The Hummers Are Back!

I am so happy to report that the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds have been back for a week or longer here in Eastern Kentucky.

It is always a welcomed sight when these tiny birds return.

How about you, are you seeing the hummers in your area?

In preparation of their return, I try to get my feeders out by the middle of April.

Each year, the hummers enjoy sitting on this branch just off of my deck. The branch has a crack in it so it may not last too many more years.

The extremely short legs of the hummingbird prevents it from walking. Check out those short legs in the pic below.

Did you know these hummers beat their wings more than 50 times per second while hovering to sip nectar from a flower? That's just unbelievable.

Thanks for stopping by to see the return of the hummers to Western Kentucky - Judy.

Spring into Purple With Earth Day

I just love the color purple especially in the Spring when lots of purple flowers are in bloom. I'm featuring purple for this post from my kitchen today.

A sweet post card with purple blooms and a spring sentiment.

I'm sharing purple blooms on the table as my centerpiece.  Hope you enjoy it.

All things purple indicate the welcome of spring.

Sweet purple teapots are ready for serving tea. I have become a hot tea drinker since giving up sodas.

Eye-catching purple lobelia and purple verbena are used for this spring table. They will be planted in my gardens for Earth Day.

Purple lilacs are blooming now.

Do you like the aroma of the lilacs I like the smell of them while I am outside but cannot bring them indoors?

Temps for the past couple of nights have been down to freezing. I have covered my azaleas, iris, and young plants.

Purple blooms in the front and back yard show off gorgeous color. You can see the iris blooms are drooping a bit from those cool nights.

My friend has a purple bottle tree in her yard.

The Iris in my front beds are blooming too. Thank goodness I took these pics before the cold temps.

I wasn't always a big purple fan! When I moved to Kentucky and saw the stunning colors of purple, my heart softened and now I just love purple.

I'm leaving my white rabbits and purple flower arrangement on the hearth for a few more days.

Thanks for stopping by for a whole lot of purple - Judy.

Springtime in Our Kentucky Yard

It is such a joy when Spring arrives and the flowers and trees begin to bloom here in Western Kentucky where we live.

Forsythia with their bright yellow blooms are the first signs of spring in our yard. Did you know it has the common name of Easter tree.

The jonquils are also early bloomers in our area. Seems like I had more blooms this year than last.

Love this white jonquils with the yellow centers.

The jonquils make lovely arrangements for the table.

The bearded iris just started blooming this week in my flower bed;  the deep purple color is just stunning. So showy!

You can see the buds on the azalea just behind the iris starting to open.

We had frost a few nights ago; I covered my azaleas (and lots of other plants and shrubs) with sheets trying to keep the buds from freezing. Looks like my precautions saved the buds

Creeping phlox are blooming. They have five-star blooms that can reach an inch across.

Redbuds are such a beautiful addition to our yard. Their pink blooms are on the stems and branches of the trees.

Our dogwoods are young trees and have rewarded us with white blooms and pink blooms.

Thanks for stopping by to see the blooms in my Western Kentucky yard - Judy.

Our Easter Table

I love bringing out pieces of my Fitz and Floyd collections at Easter. The rabbits always make my heart sing.

The centerpiece was fun to design with white roses, ivy and lilies. The table runner was made by me a few years ago. The fabric was by Moda.

One things about Fitz and Floyd pieces, is the attention to detail on each of every piece they make.

The place settings are Bordallo Pinheiro cabbage plates. I mixed the white, green and pink for each stack. Dainty Easter eggs top each of the double napkins and rings. The flatware for the table is Lenox Eternal Gold and the stemware is Marquis by Waterford Sparkle.

Don't you just love these rabbits! Wish I could leave them out for months!

The crystal napkin rings were a gift from my Mom years ago.

Besides my weakness for dishes, I love to collect ribbon. These two ribbons just say Spring to me with their soft colors.

Thanks for stopping in to see our Easter table!

He is Risen!

From our table to yours, Happy Easter - Judy.
