At the Feeders and in the Trees - Week 6

The weather in our area has been crazy. Yesterday, it was in the sixties which was exceptionally warm for February and now today we are in the twenties. I have been keeping my feeders full all winter so my yard birds have plenty to eat. With the dramatic change in temperature today, the birds have been in a frenzy. All of my images were taken today, February 9, 2017, as I observed their change in behavior.

The goldfinches have been all over the feeders and in the trees just waiting their turns to eat.

They were even fussing at each other.

Their feathers are puffed out trying to stay warm.

Their frenzy continued. They were here most of the day.

Then they would be gone for a short while.

They continued to return until late in the day.

I captured the female Northern Cardinal puffing her feathers to hold in body heat.

She also left and returned many times during the day.

Even the tiny Carolina Chickadee has remarkable insulation from it's feather in the cold weather and days like this one.

Please remember to keep your feeders full for our feathered friends - Judy.

A Table for the King and Queen of Hearts - With A Bit of Whimsy

I have designed a table featuring the King and Queen of Hearts just in time for Valentine's Day. Please enjoy this bit a whimsy.

This whimsical couple have special hearts to stand on with a quilted table runner made just for the day.

Gorgeous flowers were special ordered for the table.

Every couple loves chocolate so a special chocolate cake was needed for this celebration.

A place setting full of hearts was designed with the king and queen in mind.

Even the red napkins were tied with a checked black and white ribbon to mimic the black and white in the king and queen's attire.

All is ready for this king and queen of hearts.

Note: I hope you enjoyed this tablescape and the whimsy that accompanied. I doubt that the king and queen (Pier 1) would be eating in the kitchen for a special occasion but it adds to the fun. I did make the quilted table runner at a recent class in Paducah, KY. It was my first attempt at quilting.

Happy Valentine's Day - Judy.

A Table for Sweethearts and Friends

We are hosting a dinner party for sweethearts and friends. These little lovebirds are waiting for the party to begin. They are a symbol of everlasting love and fidelity.

The table features lots of red for this special occasion.

Roses are at the center of the table to symbolize love and romance.

Hearts are placed on the table as another image associated with love.

I made strawberry roses for the party after watching a how-to-video from here.

A decorative tray was filled with blueberries and the strawberry roses.

Candles and votives are used to set the mood.

Love is in the air with this heart paper weight.

Red and white Spoke dishes were selected for the party.

On the table:

Dinner Plates: Spoke - Winter's Eve - seen here

White salad plates: Bordallo Pinheiro - seen here

Stemware: Marquis by Waterford Sparkle - seen here

Hope you are able to enjoy Valentine's Day with your sweetheart or friends - Judy.
