At the Feeders and in the Trees - Week 25

My feeders are have been busy whether it is rain or sunshine.

The Northern Cardinal is always a treat to watch. The cardinal and the house finch are eating safflower seeds.

Not a great shot, but I was happy to catch the cardinal in flight. 

The Purple Finch is still visiting the feeders. I'm thrilled to get a chance to capture a few more pics of him. 

The female Purple Finch eating on a mealworm cake. Notice her distinct white eyebrow. 

The Carolina Wrens have such a warm rusty-brown head and back. Their chest and belly is a orange yellow color.

I'm always thankful that I get so many visitors at my feeders and in the trees. 

The Carolina Chickadee is such a cute little bird with his black cap and chin.

Blue and White Mix for the Table.

The wind is blowing and the rain is pouring, but at least the temps are above freezing. Snow is not in the forecast, and we hope to dodge freezing rain. 

I love to see tables set in blue and white, with this in mind, I am featuring a tablescape from my archives.

These colors are just so calming.  

I am drawn to other bloggers blue and white tables very time I see them. I don't have any fabulous blue and dishes china, at least not yet!

For Thankful Thursday, I am thankful that I have not had the flu this year and pray for the health of others.

Bringing Out A Little Green

With Valentine's Day over, I brought out a few green things this weekend. 

A Shamrocks plate by Peggy Karr. I'm so glad I collected her plates and trays over the years because this American artist is now retired and no more of her pieces are being made. If you happen to find one in a shop and like it, you should buy it because they are getting hard to find.

A green pair of dancers for a nod to the Chinese New Year. I only bring this pair out once a year about this time. They were passed down from my grandmother to my mom and then to me.

A Visit from the Purple Finch

I've been waiting for months to get a pic of the Purple Finch and today was my lucky day.

This six inch bird only visits my area of Western Kentucky in the Winter.

You can see the black oil sunflower seed right in his mouth. He has a heavy conical beak which is good for seed cracking or crushing these seeds.

Take a look at the raspberry colored head of the male. 

His breast, back, and rump are also raspberry colored. 

You may be able to see a slight crest on the head of the Purple Finch.

Below is a pic showing the House Finch, Goldfinch and Purple Finch. The House Finch and Purple Finch can be difficult to tell apart. You can see the Purple Finch male isn't really purple but has the raspberry head, breast, back and rump. The House Finch and Goldfinch pics were taken in January and the Purple Finch in February. 

I am so thankful to see the purple finch at my feeders.

Valentine's Day Table - A String of Hearts

With Valentine's Day just a few days away, my table has been set and ready to share.

The colors used on my table are traditional red, white for Valentine's Day and a third color of aqua. 

The flowers for the centerpiece are fresh red carnations and white baby's breath in an aqua vase. 

Four of the placemats are finished.  They were sewn and quilted by me and sit beneath a stack of aqua plates and chargers topped with a red heart plates. 

Red dinner napkins are encased with a soft pale aqua sheer napkin and held with a delicate flower napkin ring. 

The title for my post is from the table topper I recently finished. Each corner of the topper has an appliqued string of hearts.

The inner part of the topper's design is four hearts; two hearts from a white print fabric with an aqua print background fabric and two hearts in an aqua print with a red print background fabric.

Could this be a Female Warbler

This darling small bird has been visiting my feeders since about December but I didn't really know what bird it was.

I have been on a quest to identify this olive-green bird with a small thin dark beak. 

I thought it might be a warbler but warblers should be in my area of  Western Kentucky this time of year.

I thought it might be a Ruby-Crowned Kinglet but it doesn't have the pronounced white eye ring of the kinglet. 

If it is a warbler, I can't figure out why it is here in Western Kentucky this time of year. I am so thankful for this little bird continuing to visit my feeders.

I am hoping one of my birding experts can help me out - Judy.

 

Update: Thanks to Kenneth Cole Schneider over at Rosyfinch Ramblings, I have a positive ID on the warbler in this post. Kenneth says it is a Orange-Crowned Warbler. Check out his comment below. Thank goodness there are experts like him!!

A Visit From Downys and Doves
